MOB LYNCHING IN INDIA- A CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF CAUSES, CONSEQUENCES, AND LEGAL IMPLICATIONS

In India, the idea of mob lynching is not new; instances of it date back to the partition era, where hundreds of villages migrated from Pakistan and India, respectively, out of pure fear. This paper examines the phenomenon of mob lynching by assessing its historical development and core factors and societal effects throughout Indian society. Social media serves as a significant factor that leads to the increase of mob lynching because it provides an avenue for misinformation to spread quickly, which triggers violence and allows people to behave like vigilantes.
